Fourth Amendment, we hardly knew thee

In anticipation of the RNC in Minneapolis, police have begun raiding the homes of suspected protesters, arresting some and seizing their property. All without warrants. In order to intimidate and disrupt planned, peaceful and legal protests.

I don't recall hearing about the Boulder police going this far last week, but it was still pretty bad.

The Police: Forgetting about the Fourth Amendment so we can also forget about the First Amendment.

As ever, Glenn Greenwald has some excellent coverage of this story as well. Remember: China arresting dissidents = evil totalitarianism; the GOP arresting dissidents = protecting freedom.

I wish I could say that the UK was any better on this score, but sadly we're merely more surreal. (Yes, they passed a law banning protests near Parliament in order to get rid of one guy. Only then to discover that since he was there before it was passed, he's now the one person in the country legally able to protest there.)
